WELCOME!

Can an ordinary person discover anything new about home? That was one of the questions that interested me when I embarked on backcountry trips into some of Alaska's wilder realms. The Accidental Explorer: Wayfinding in Alaska is a collection of essays based on events and ideas that occurred during these excursions. Some essays also discuss lives of other explorers and inhabitants, from the Original Peoples to John Muir to Christopher McCandless. Click on "Field Trips" for photographs, maps, and excerpts related to some of these essays.
